Some houses just speak to me, literally! The Ennis House, a Los Angeles architectural treasure designed by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright, is such a place.
I first stumbled upon this magnificent home while in Southern California during a business trip in the late ’90s. A free afternoon took me to atop the Hollywood hills, home to the city’s Griffith Park and its memorable domed observatory. From the observatory’s huge wraparound terrace, I scanned the entire LA basin, identifying such landmarks as the Capitol Records building in Hollywood and LA’s downtown skyline in the distance. To the far east, I barely noticed an unusual structure that peaked out from a cluster of trees. I soon realized that it was the famous Ennis House that I’d seen pictures of and read about in various publications.
I was determined to see it up close! So, I climbed into my rental car and dashed over to the nearby Los Feliz neighborhood. After driving several miles of narrow, hairpin hillside streets, I came upon the building, whose driveway entrance appeared to be open. Unoccupied at the time (it was in desperate need of repair because of years of neglect and the Northridge earthquake a few years prior), the home seemed to be “calling me.” I parked the car curbside and walked through the gates, dismissing any thoughts of possibly trespassing.
“Are you here for the tour?” a man holding a clipboard, and surrounded by a dozen or so people, asked just as I entered the motor court.
“A tour?” I thought to myself! Without wasting a second, I blurted, “Yes! I am here for the tour.” Thrilled to spend an hour or so in this gem, which had been featured in several movies, including Blade Runner and the Vincent Price classic, The House on Haunted Hill, I told myself that one day I’d host an executive corporate meeting or function at the Ennis House.
Fate has a funny way of manifesting desires. In 2007, while working for my last Fortune 500 company, I was able to hold a private dinner at the Ennis House and it was for my very own department! All of this took place BEFORE I was aware of my psychic gift.
After I discovered my spiritual capabilities in 2008, I participated in a past life regression session with a talented hypnotherapist. Within minutes, I was transported to a previous life on Easter Island, seeing not only how I lived, but how I died. The hypnotherapist then guided me by saying, “You’ve seen this life, now jump to the future.”
When this happened, I was transplanted into the halls of the Ennis House! “I’ve been here before. I recognize the stone tiles and the design,” I offered while relaxed in the recliner. “I feel like I’m connected to this house.”
Last week, I decided to revisit photos of my department’s dinner at the Ennis House, as I hadn’t seen them in years. Scanning the pics on my computer, I came upon one that stood out from the others. A large spiritual orb hovered over the dining table just as we were sitting down. I had never noticed it before.
For me, it was a spiritual sign that we are not only drawn to certain experiences, but also to certain locations.
Love and light,
Tony
